Sunday afternoon. A car pulls up outside Rihanna’s Beverly Crest home in LA.
The driver, a 35-year-old speech pathologist from Orlando named Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, steps out with an AR-15-style rifle and fires between seven and nine rounds into the property before speeding off.
She hit the front gate. She hit an Airstream trailer parked in the driveway. She hit a neighbor’s house.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were in that Airstream.
Their three kids, Rihanna’s mother, and two staffers were inside the main house. Ten people total on the property.
Nobody was hurt, but as one police official told the LA Times, they “easily could have been hit.”
Who Is Ivanna Ortiz?
That’s the part nobody can quite figure out. Public records show Ortiz has been a licensed speech pathologist for over a decade.
She has no obvious public connection to Rihanna. But LAPD dug into her social media and found posts , including one on X where she tagged Rihanna and wrote “Are you there?”
Detectives believe she drove up from Florida specifically to carry out the attack, though exactly how long she’d been in California before Sunday is still unclear.
Police caught up with her about three miles away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, still in the car, apparently not in any particular rush.
She was booked for attempted murder. Bail was set at $10.2 million. She’s now facing 14 felony counts in total, including one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. If she’s convicted on everything, she’s looking at life.
Life After the Shooting
Rihanna and Rocky were spotted in New York this week for the first time since the incident, six security guards tight around them, moving fast, not stopping for anything.
No statement from either of them yet. No Instagram post. Nothing. The district attorney’s office tried to put a calming spin on it, “LA-based celebrities should not be additionally worried,” DA Nathan Hochman said at a press conference, which is the kind of thing you say specifically when people are worried.
The same prosecutor who put Tory Lanez away for shooting Megan Thee Stallion is now handling Ortiz’s case. That’s not an accident. Her arraignment is set for March 25.
This isn’t the first time someone has forced their way into Rihanna’s world uninvited, back in 2018, a man broke into her Hollywood Hills home and spent 12 hours there.
But showing up with a rifle while her kids are inside is a different category of frightening. Whatever Ortiz’s motive turns out to be, it barely matters at this point.
The bullets were real. The family was home. And that’s the part that doesn’t go away.
